Estonia will extend its 2007 budget to strengthen bilateral collaboration, including with Moldova. Statements to this effect were made today by Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet, who is paying a 26-27 October working visit to Chisinau. <\/p>\n

Moldovan Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan today told journalists that the meeting with his Estonian counterpart focused on the political situation and the economic development in Moldova, and the current stage of the Moldovan-Estonian bilateral relations. Stratan thanked Estonia for supporting the implementation of the European Union Action Plan for Moldova. <\/p>\n

Paet expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Estonian citizens will need no visas to enter Moldova starting 1 January 2007. The Estonian minister also said that, starting 2007, the Moldovan diplomats will travel without visas to Estonia, while the Moldovan citizens will be issued visas free of charge. <\/p>\n

Paet said that Estonia supports Moldova’s efforts to obtain the EU autonomous trade preferences. The diplomat stressed the importance of Moldova’s cooperation with the EU, in order to be able to benefit from a simplified procedure of issuing Schengen visas. Paet also spoke for extending the EU Border Assistance Mission for Moldova and Ukraine. <\/p>\n

Referring to Moldova’s energy problems, the Estonian minister said that at present the EU member countries are drafting a common policy on energy, which will reduce risks in the sector. <\/p>\n

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet signed the partnership development framework on the coordination and harmonization of government’s and donors’ activities to improve assistance in Moldova. <\/p>\n

Today, the heads of the two diplomacies are to participate in the opening ceremony of the Estonian honorific consulate in Chisinau. <\/p>\n
