More than 600 military from at least 21 countries, including about 300 persons on behalf of Moldova, participate in the 2nd stage of the multinational exercise Cooperative Longbow\/Lancer 2006 organised jointly with NATO, partner countries (signatories to the Partnership for Peace (PP) Programme) and countries of the Mediterranean Dialogue. Cooperative Lancer is an exercise with ground troops and it takes place at the training centre in the village of Bulboaca, the district of Anenii Noi. <\/p>\n

Ion Savciuc, co-director of the multinational exercise, told journalists that "Cooperative Lancer 2006 aims to train General Staff officers and ground troops to promote the interoperability in peacekeeping operations within scenarios of response to situations of crisis and humanitarian assistance operations." <\/p>\n

According to Savciuc, military of participating states are trained to exercise and promote the interoperability by using the NATO standards in operations of response to situations of crisis. The host country offered most of equipment (150), of which the National Army offered 20 armoured vehicles TAB. He noted that a helicopter is permanently on the spot to provide emergency medical assistance to wounded or ill persons. <\/p>\n

Savciuc underlined that the exercise is based on a peacekeeping scenario structured into three stages: familiarisation and individual training of military, training of the multinational command accordingly to the NATO standards and the active exercise in the field. <\/p>\n

Taking part in the Cooperative Longbow-Lancer 2006 are about 1,000 military and 50 civilians from many countries and international organisations, 9 NATO member countries, 12 PP partner countries, and representatives of the International Red Cross Committee, local Red Cross and civil police of the Moldovan Interior Ministry. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Serbia participate in this exercise as observers. <\/p>\n
