Statements to this effect were made today within a seminar on public&#8217;s participation in the decision-taking process, conducted in Chisinau on 5-6 September. <\/p>\n<p>A representative within the media division of the Council of Europe (CE) in Chisinau, Eugen Cibotaru, said the draft law&#8217;s elaboration and future approval is opportune for Moldova, and the CE is willing to offer the assistance necessary to adjust it to the European standards. Cibotaru said that Moldova is among the first South-Eastern European states to approve the law on access to information, in line with these standards. <\/p>\n<p>Participating in the event, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev told journalists that the public&#8217;s access to information and transparency in the decision-taking process &quot;is much higher against the previous years, but it is still insufficient to improve the situation&quot;. Tarlev said that much has to be done in order to create a mechanism for transparent government and to radically change the entire society&#8217;s mentality.
