A new local citizens’ organization called the Movement for Unity with Russia has called upon Transnistrian residents to take an active part in the September 17 referendum and to vote for integration with Russia. The movement’s constituent assembly was held last Thursday – on the eve of the celebration of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic’s 16th anniversary. The forum has elected Transnistrian minister of foreign affairs Valery Litkai chairman of the new organization. <\/p>\n

In its Address to compatriots and the entire world, the Movement welcomed the course for building firm relations with the Russian Federation, and expressed confidence this course will be backed by the Transnistrians at the forthcoming referendum. <\/p>\n

"Today, Transnistria is standing on the threshold of a new phase of its history. We are sure the Russian Federation and other states as well as international organizations will be building relations with the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic proceeding from the people’s will to be expressed this September 17. We believe the only correct answers will be our resolute "Yes" to independence, freedom and respect for our rights, and our resolute "No" to blockades, humiliation and division of people on the principles of ethnicity, language and the like", the document said. <\/p>\n

The new Movement called on compatriots to participate in the referendum "which must define our republic’s external political priorities and a course for the future". <\/p>\n

The organization’s Supreme Board has included 11 representatives of major industrial enterprises, including the ones with Russian capitals. <\/p>\n

The Movement has proclaimed its main objective as follows: Transnistria’s maximum-possible integration into the Russian Federation’s political, legal, economic, social, cultural and educational areas. For this to achieve, the "Unity with Russia" will use people’s diplomacy.
