Ambassador Louis O’Neill, chairman of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, calls for the reduction of the Security Zone, though he admits that this is a political issue. <\/p>\n

The new chairman of the OSCE Mission to Moldova has delivered such a statement after a visit to the Transnistrian region. The news agency Novy Region has quoted O’Neill as saying that peacekeeping stations do not exist in the northern region and no incidents were registered there. At the same time, the ambassador was informed about the reduction of peacekeeping stations from 42 down to 15 stations in 1992. In this context, the OSCE Mission head supposed that these stations could be reduced in continuation in the Security Zone. \"\"<\/p>\n

O’Neill visited Monday the Unified Control Command and met with its head. He greeted the peacekeepers over the 14th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation. <\/p>\n

Mr. O’Neill took over the mandate of OSCE Mission head from William Hill on July 21.
