Evgeny Shevchiuk, chairman of the Supreme Soviet in Tiraspol, says that there could be a connection between the scheduled referendum on status of the Transnistrian region, the election of a president of the breakaway enclave and the Sunday trolley explosion in Tiraspol. <\/p>\n

Shevchiuk has stated to Transnistrian journalists that "the goal of the two blasts that took place in public transport this summer is to destabilise the situation." He did not rule out a direct connection between the two autumn-scheduled political events and the explosions. Also, the head of the Transnistrian legislature noted that the attacks could be organised at an order from inside and outside of the secessionist region. <\/p>\n

Shevchiuk noted that the Supreme Soviet could adopt some unordinary decisions in September after local militia and security bodies present complete information, but fell short of revealing the nature of information and planned measures. \"\"<\/p>\n

At the same time, he reiterated the older accusations that the constitutional authorities of Moldova are trying to destabilise the situation in the separatist region. <\/p>\n

According to Shevchiuk, the Transnistrian administration is waiting for the stabilisation of situation in the Supreme Rada [Ukrainian parliament] and creation of the Kiev government in order to resume the negotiations on annulment of the current customs regime implemented in the Transnistrian section of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. <\/p>\n

Two persons were killed and another 10 were wounded in the Sunday trolley explosion. The victims include two Ukrainian nationals. The Transnistrian militia said that the blast does not have any connection with the July 16 explosion, when seven persons were killed and another 28 were hurt in a minibus blast.
