Moldovan President has met Deputy Assistant U.S. Secretary of State <\/p>\n

David Kramer, according to a press release by the presidential press service. <\/p>\n

David Kramer pointed up the bilateral relations’ evolutions, intensification and deepening of the Moldovan-American dialogue. The U.S. official said Moldova’s participation in the Millennium Challenge Programme is one of Moldova’s opportunities to advance on the way of economic and democratic reforms. Kramer reiterated his country’s interest that Moldova becomes a successful case in this programme’s implementation. <\/p>\n

The president announced that he has recently signed an action plan, elaborated in line with the proposals and objections formulated within a government meeting on combating corruption. It sees concrete tasks for each ministry and state institution. Voronin reiterated Moldova’s intention to firmly act in order to combat corruption. He stressed the positive impact of the use of information technologies in banking, finance, customs, and transport sectors in order to decrease corruption. <\/p>\n

David Kramer welcomed the positive dynamics of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, mainly stressing the favourable results of the European Union Border Assistance Mission’s activity, and of the new goods’ transit rules across the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. <\/p>\n

Voronin and Kramer pointed out the importance to internationalize the Transnistrian settlement process for identifying a lasting political solution to the conflict on the left bank of Dniestre, describing it as a joint success. <\/p>\n

Referring to the referendum planned by the Tiraspol authorities, David Kramer expressed conviction that no European country will delegate observers to monitor it. <\/p>\n

The deputy assistant U.S. secretary of state thanked the Moldovan authorities for the military unit’s participation in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in Iraq. He highly appreciated the Moldovan sappers’ activity and their contribution to solve the post-conflict problems in the country, to combat terrorism, to ensure peace, security and stability in the world. <\/p>\n
