Moldova’s diplomatic missions abroad should step up their activities aimed at creating a favourable image of Moldova abroad and defending the national interests, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev said on Tuesday at a meeting with Moldovan ambassadors. <\/p>\n

Tarlev said that "a meeting of such level was organized for the first time with the support of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry". <\/p>\n

"We hope that such meetings will become a tradition. When it comes to foreign policy, a permanent exchange of information and consultations are needed. The government programme, Renewal of the Country – Wellbeing of the People, is aimed at improving the social and economic situation and the business climate in our country, raising living standards and expanding foreign relations. Diplomatic missions abroad should take this into consideration and base their activities proceeding from state interests", Tarlev said. He underlined that "Moldovan diplomats should make serious efforts to ease visa requirements for Moldovan citizens wishing to visit the EU". <\/p>\n

"Moldova aspires to join the EU and, for this purpose, it implements a number of important programmes, including the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy, the Moldova-EU action plan, the Moldovan Village programme and the strategy aimed at building an information community. Moldova’s image abroad depends on diplomats to a great extent", Tarlev said. According to him, the diplomatic missions should not forget about the Transnistrian conflict and they should "correctly" present this issue abroad. "The conflict between the right and the left banks of the Dniester river is a conflict of personal interests and it has no national or religious reasons.
