Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin does not consider that the CIS has completely exhausted all its resources. He made a statement to this effect in an interview with Russia’s Ekho Moskvy radio station on Friday evening before the opening of the CIS informal summit in Moscow. <\/p>\n

"Any thing that gives results is efficient. And I do not think that the CIS has completely exhausted its resources, as many claim or try to convince somebody", the Moldovan President remarked. <\/p>\n

Although many have predicted the CIS dissolution since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, this has not happened, Voronin said. <\/p>\n

"At the same time, at present the CIS is facing more problems than in early 90ies. The question is that it is necessary to come to an agreement on the political constituting part of the Commonwealth, its role and place of all of us in it in order to promote the CIS and solve its development problems. In this case, issues of integration and cooperation and those inter-state issues which the CIS is actually intended to solve will be solved more successfully", Voronin said. <\/p>\n

"It is necessary that we agree upon the policy we all shall pursue together on the shore, as they say", Voronin stated. <\/p>\n

"We should also resolve all the problems in our bilateral relations. If we overcome all this, our integration into CIS will be more fruitful and more perspective", he said. <\/p>\n

Voronin said that, as a matter of fact, the Moldovan Parliament considered the issue on Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS on the initiative of opposition parliamentarians. <\/p>\n

"They insisted on including it into the agenda – well, for God’s sake, in a democratic way we put it on the agenda, but in the course of debates it happened so that those parliamentarians who put this initiative forward asked for its withdrawal from the agenda. We did not even vote, the debates produced so many arguments in favor of the CIS and against Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS today", the Moldovan President declared. <\/p>\n

He underlined that Moldovan people are in favor of the CIS, for close cooperation and for all possible ties with Russia. <\/p>\n

"That is why, there is no need to insistently convince them in it. And for us, Moldovans, the Russian and Ukrainian markets, and relations with other countries mean more than just economy… It is difficult for me to explain the stance of those and the situation moments connected with the aggravation of relations between Moldova and Russia, this is really difficult to explain it to people", Voronin said.  \/\/ Infotag <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
