International experts describe as an occupation regime the control the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic established in Moldova’s eastern districts. <\/p>\n

De facto, the Tiraspol regime can control the economic resources in the region, but de jure, Moldova is the legal owner, says a report by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, USA, which was unveiled today in Chisinau during an international conference. <\/p>\n

The chairman of the association s Committee on European Affairs, Mark Meyer, said in his report that any economic operations carried out jointly with the separatists are made on the account of secessionists, and there is no guarantee that such activities will be sanctioned after the conflict’s final settlement. "Consequently, Transnistria’s privatisation programme cannot offer conviction to investors that these transactions will be recognized in case the Moldovan Transnistrian republic is reintegrated into Moldova", Meyer said. <\/p>\n

Meyer also said that Transnistria’s secession attempts are internal issues which are to be solved by Moldova. "Under the international norms, there is no right to secession, but it can be accepted if a people is oppressed, and there are no other options to protect human rights there. The Transnistrian republic did not prove that it has the right to external self-determination or secession," Meyer concluded. <\/p>\n

The experts noted that Russia is to blame for the continuation of the separatist crisis in Moldova, because of its involvement in favour of the Tiraspol self-proclaimed leaders, its military assistance, economic support, etc, provided to Transnistria. <\/p>\n

Attending the event, Moldovan Speaker Marian Lupu welcomed the report’s conclusions. He expressed conviction that it will complete the visions on the Transnistrian conflict and will contribute to identifying new solutions to the conflict. <\/p>\n
