President Vladimir Voronin has met the head of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York s Committee on European Affairs, Mark A. Meyer and Assistant Professor of Law at St. John’s University School of Law, Christopher J. Borgen, the presidential press service has said. <\/p>\n

Mark Meyer and Christopher J. Borgen presented a report, Thawing a Frozen Conflict: Legal Aspects of the Separatist Crisis in Moldova, yesterday in Chisinau. the document was elaborated by a group of experts of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin thanked the U.S. experts for their remarkable contribution to elucidate the Transnistrian problem’s juridical and legal component. The head of state highly appreciated the quality of the report drawn up by the New York Bar. "It is important that this report be presented to the Moldovan and foreign public opinion, the European chancelleries and the USA, the European and international organisations, including the United Nations Organisation as the first and comprehensive scientific and juridical investigation of the Transnistrian problem," the president said. <\/p>\n

Mark A. Meyer and Christopher J. Borgen said the report, Thawing a Frozen Conflict: Legal Aspects of the Separatist Crisis in Moldova, is the result of vast and document-based researches on the Transnistrian separatism phenomenon through the light of the international law, carried out during one year, including by getting information on the scene. These analyses show the absolutely unjustified character of the Tiraspol leaders’ separatist pretensions, as well as the serious damage inflicted to the fundamental human rights and freedoms, regional and international security’s interests by maintaining and tolerating the separatist regime, the U.S. experts said. <\/p>\n

The American journalists stressed that the pointing out of the Transnistrian separatism’s juridical and legal aspect would represent an extremely important step to clear up this phenomenon’s essence. Along with diplomatic efforts, this report would decisively contribute to extending the settlement process’ legal basis, to establishing, at the international level, a correct strategy and optimum mechanisms to overcome the separatism crisis in Moldova, the U.S. experts said. <\/p>\n

Mark A. Meyer and Christopher J. Borgen expressed the New York Bar’s willingness to further help draw the world public opinion’s attention to the juridical aspects and consequences of the separatism in Moldova’s eastern region.
