Moldova appreciates Romania’s political support in the South-East European integration process, as well as the promotion within the European Union of the need to treat Moldova as a Southern Eastern European state, which deserves the same treatment and clear European prospects as the other countries in this region. <\/p>\n

Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Eugenia Kistruga has made a statement to this effect in a speech she delivered at the conference, Economic Cooperation between Moldova and Romania: Prospects and Provocations. <\/p>\n

Kistruga said that once Romania and Bulgaria enter the European Union in 2007, Moldova’s free trade agreements with these countries will be denounced. "Taking into account this situation, we hope that, in 2007, the EU will take a positive decision on granting the Autonomous Trade Preferences to Moldova", Kistruga said. <\/p>\n

"Moldova’s major economic cooperation goal with the EU is to obtain the Autonomous Trade Preferences, similar to those offered to the Balkan countries. Moldova implemented the European Commission’s recommendations, mainly with regard to the rules of origin. The new certification system was put into operation starting 1 July 2006," Kistruga added. <\/p>\n

On the same occasion, Industry and Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Antosii referred to the Moldovan-Romanian energy cooperation prospect, in the context of Romania’s accession to the EU. Antosii stressed the opportunity of EU’s assistance to construct the Balti-Suceava and Falciu-Cantemir electricity lines. He also emphasised the opportunity of Moldova’s participation in the South East European Energy Treaty and its accession to the Union for the Co-ordination of Transmission of Electricity. <\/p>\n

Secretary of State at Romanian government Dan Dumitru stressed that Romania has already adjusted its business culture to the EU level, and it wants that the same thing happens in Moldova as soon as possible. <\/p>\n
