Speaker Marian Lupu has had a meeting with the World Bank executive director for Moldova, Jan Willem van der Kaaij, who is paying a fact-collecting visit to Chisinau, according to the parliament’s press and image service. <\/p>\n

Lupu welcomed the resumption of the dialogue with the international financing institutions, particularly pointing up the recent signing of the new International Monetary Fund financing programme. Lupu also positively appreciated the project on supporting economic competitiveness, which is implemented in Moldova with the World Bank’s support. <\/p>\n

"We are aware how important it is to have a good cooperation with the international financing institutions, and we have already proceeded to implement reforms we undertook towards international organisations. Parliament has already adopted the law on the National Bank of Moldova and the National Creditors’ Council," Lupu said. <\/p>\n

Lupu called on the World Bank to back Moldova’s dialogue with the European Union to facilitate the possibility to obtain a new trade regime with the EU and to be granted the Autonomous Trade Preferences. Lupu said that it would help reduce the economic negative effects of Romania’s and Bulgaria s accession to the EU, because the status of EU member states will certainly lead to the cancellation of the free trade agreements between these two states and Moldova. <\/p>\n

Lupu also informed the World Bank official about the efforts taken to identify short-term and middle-term solutions to diminish the negative consequences of the ban the Russian Federation has imposed on the import of Moldovan wines, and of the increase in gas delivery price. <\/p>\n
