The Co-chairwoman of the Moldova-European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (M-EU PCC), Marianne Mikko, has said that a referendum in the Transnistrian region is useless as long as there is not a juridical basis for its carrying out. <\/p>\n

The European official today gave a news conference in Chisinau after more meetings with the European officials, that the European Parliament’s stance as regards the Transnistrian problem is the same as regards the Moldovan legislature. Mikko said that she will try, during the today meetings with the Transnistrian authorities, to find out their position. <\/p>\n

Asked by the journalists to appreciate the pace reforms carried out in Moldova, Mikko said that "the level of the democratic reform’s implementation is good, and the Moldovan authorities’ desire to follow the European integration’s way is obvious". <\/p>\n

Referring to the working out and adoption of laws in Moldova, particularly, the Law on Audiovisual, Mikko proposed the Moldovan authorities to pay an increased attention to the media institutions’ privatization and creation of necessary conditions for the independent press’ functioning. <\/p>\n

Attending the news conference, the Moldovan co-chairman in the M-EU PCC, Victor Stepaniuc, appreciated the constructive and open dialogue. Referring to the implementation of the EU Action Plan for Moldova, Stepaniuc said that, in this respect, the European officials stressed certain shortages and the reform in justice, audiovisual, the Transnistrian conflict settlement. <\/p>\n
