The Moldovan authorities plan to call on the European Union to sign an association agreement, after the EU Action Plan for Moldova is fully carried out. The agreement will guarantee Moldova’s irreversible course of European integration. <\/p>\n

Deputy Premier, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan today made statements to this effect during a news conference focused on the Foreign and European Integration Ministry s activity in the first half of 2006. <\/p>\n

Stratan said the European integration is a goal important to Moldova, and the association agreement would give the possibility that the EU member states assist Moldova on this way. <\/p>\n

Referring to the Moldovan diplomats’ achievements, Stratan mentioned the status of full-fledged member of the South East European Cooperation Process, which Moldova obtained last spring. <\/p>\n

Stratan said the status allows Moldova to actively participate in the region’s initiatives and decision-making process, to help strengthen regional stability and security. It will also contribute to the fulfilment of the European integration prospect, he said. "Now that Moldova made this political achievement, it is situated in the same political area as the South-eastern European states, which advanced significantly in the European integration process," Stratan said. <\/p>\n

Touching upon other activities the ministry carried out in the first six months of 2006, Stratan noted the progress made within the GUAM organisation, and in the cooperation with NATO, the state of things on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, Moldova’s consular activity abroad, etc. <\/p>\n

Strengthening dialogue with the EU in order to simplify the visa regime, monitoring the process of coordination of the national migration management system, continuing talks with the EU to diversify electricity delivery, and solving the gas problem with the Russian Federation, are among the ministry’s priorities for the second half of 2006, Stratan said. \/\/ Moldpres<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
