Five employees of the Moldovan Interior Ministry (MAI) were kidnapped by the special services of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic on Wednesday, 14 June, in the evening. <\/p>\n

MAI says the kidnapping’s reasons are not known, and describes the incident as the Transnistrian authorities’ "provocation" aimed at destabilising the situation. <\/p>\n

Interior Minister Gheorghe Papuc today told a news conference that employees of the security ministry of the unrecognised republic held four policemen of the Bender-based Police Commissariat, which is run by Chisinau, as well as the head of the SUD division of the MAI general department for combating organised crime. <\/p>\n

Papuc specified that the Bender commissariat’s policemen were kidnapped while trying to clear up the situation of a friend of theirs, who had been held by the Transnistrian power wielding forces during his stay in Tiraspol for a medical consultation. <\/p>\n

Papuc said he does not know the circumstances in which the head of the SUD division of the general department for combating organised crime was kidnapped. The minister only specified that the latter was on the left bank of the Dniestre river in order to familiarise with a case over the murder of two Moldovan citizens, which is in line with an agreement between MAI and the Transnistrian authorities. <\/p>\n
