On the occasion of the Europe Day of May 9, Moldovan Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan issued a Statement saying that Moldova’s striving for European integration is "a strategic and irreversible course". <\/p>\n

Reaffirming that course, the Republic of Moldova once again stated its commitment to all the criteria of achieving the task of accession to the united Europe based on democratic values, solidarity, and human rights observance, the Minister said. <\/p>\n

Andrei Stratan stressed the Day is full of meaningfulness for all the states of the European continent. He advised that in the nearest future his Ministry jointly with the Eurasia Foundation will announce a contest to select civil society representatives which will partake in the creation and functioning of European information centers in Moldova. Their work will be aimed at strengthening of partnership between the authorities and civil society to realize the people of Moldova’s strategic objective – European integration, he said. <\/p>\n

The minister highlighted that this year the Europe Day coincided with a very important event on the country’s way to Europe – Moldova’s accession, as a full-bodied member, to the Southeastern Europe Cooperation Process (SECP). That happened during the May 4 SECP Summit held in Thessalonica (Greece).
