A Moldovan representative in the commission, Ion Leahu, has told MOLDPRES that the decision was triggered by the fact that, lately, there were registered advancements, and mainly, the Transnistrian authorities allow the access of peasants and economic agents from the security zone to their farmlands, on the basis of temporary certificates they issue. <\/p>\n

Leahu said that the participants in the 4 May JCC meeting decided that in order to solve the conflict over the port of Varnita, the peacekeeping forces must limit the involvement of public law enforcement bodies in the settlement of eventual litigations that can occur in the region. At the same time, Leahu said that a joint peacekeeping patrol – set up under a JCC decision from 28 April – will be on guard in the port on around-the-clock basis. <\/p>\n

The next JCC ordinary meeting was set for 11 May. <\/p>\n

On 21 April 2006, over 80 armed people of the Transnistrian special services and militia seized the Varnita river port, which is under the Chisinau jurisdiction.
