\"\"On March 27, the European Union Justice and Home Affairs Ministers reviewed the E.U. visa policy. <\/p>\n

Ministers have decided to increase the visa fee from 35 Euro to 60 Euro, but there will be some waivers and reductions related for certain groups (children, students, teachers, researchers) and under visa facilitation agreements. In a press conference Ursula Plassnik from the Austrian Presidency mentioned that the E.U. Ministers of Interior had agreed to: “leave visa fees at their current levels until at least 1 January 2008 for those countries with which the visa facilitation and readmission agreements are to be negotiated", i.e. probably until the conclusion of those negotiations. After that, the agreements themselves would probably result in a solution that is also acceptable to the E.U.’s partners. This means there is a good chance that there will be no fee increase at all for the Western Balkan countries, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. <\/p>\n

The Council requested the Commission to bring forward recommendations for mandates for initiating negotiations on visa facilitation and readmission agreements, starting with the Western Balkans countries. Russia has already concluded such agreements; Ukraine started the negotiations at the end of last year; Moldova was promised the start of the consultations soon, although the Commission hasn’t asked for a mandate yet.
