The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) has sent to MOLDPRES for distribution a declaration with the following content: <\/p>\n

"The Tiraspol separatist regime, on 21 April 2006, took a new provocative action in the Security Zone. Representatives of the Transnistrian power wielding forces occupied the port in the Varnita settlement, which is under Moldova’s jurisdiction, by inimidating and illegally holding the personnel who was on duty. The Transnistrian regime’s unilateral actions in the Security Zone, with the use of force, destabilises more the tense enough situation. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan authorities describe the 21 April incident as a serious violation of the increased security regime in this region. This action of the Tiraspol regime represents a link in the series of direct attempts against Moldova’s citizens, the units which represent the state owenership and Moldova’s enterprises. <\/p>\n

This incident proved once again the inefficiency of the peacekeeping mechanism in the Security Zone, which turned into a mere screen of the separatist regime’s aggressive actions. Earlier, the peacekeeping mechanism failed to prevent the forcible occupation of Moldova’s Tighina-based Railway Knot, the devastation of the Moldovan Latin script schools, the blocking of the Dorotcaia residents’ access to the land plots, the placement of a post of the anticonstitutional structures at the Dubasari dam, as well os other cases of human rights’ glaring violation. The peacekeeping mechanism has become a lever of Tiraspol’s pressure on the population from the Security Zone, as well as the hostage of the Transnistrian regime’s subversive ambitions. The peacekeeping mechanism, for the regime’s representatives, is a means to undermine the Transnistrian problem settlement. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan authorities ask for the immedite and unconditional release of the people who have been abusively held. Moldova reconfirms the position of principle to use exclusively peaceful means to settle such provocations, and calls on all the involved actors to prove calm and reason. <\/p>\n
