\"\"A Moldovan parliament’s delegation led by the head of the Party of Communists’ faction, Eugenia Ostapciuc, on a visit to Moscow, yesterday had a series of meetings with Russian officials. <\/p>\n

According to the parliament’s press service, during a meeting with the Moldovan delegation, the deputy head of the committee for the relations with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Sergey Antufiev and the committee members expressed concern about the interruption of the negotiations on the Transnistrian problem settlement process, and asked for information on the introduction of the new regime of goods’ transit across the Moldovan-Ukrainian frontier’s Transnistrian segment, as well as on the so-called economic blockade of Transnistria. <\/p>\n

The members of the Moldovan parliament’s delegation unveled the country’s position in the process of settling the situation in Moldova’s eastern districts, and offered truthful information on the state of things in the region. At the same time, the parliamentary delegation denied the erroneous information, according to which a humanitarian catastrophe allegedly persist in the Transnistrian region. <\/p>\n

During yesterday, the Moldovan MPs also met representatives of the State Duma’s (Russian parliament’s lower chamber) foreign relations committee, with whom they exchanged opinions clearing up the sides’ stances on the most pressing problems of the present relations between Moldova and Russia. <\/p>\n

Referring to the issue of export from Moldova of farm products, including wine goods, the interlocutors agreed on the fact that, although each state has the duty to protect its population from food products which do not meet the sanitary norms, the actions taken to this effect must be transparent, should deal with concrete situations and enterprises, without affecting the economic relations between the two countries on the whole. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan parliamenary delegation met the deputy head of the Russian Communicts Party’s (PCFR) parliamentary faction, Ivan Melnikov, with whom they discussed issues of common interest, and tackled particularly the social impact of the economic and political decisions. The collocutors stressed the necessity to better mutually inform, in order to adequately act in problems which appear in the Moldovan-Russian relations. The sides said that a more efficient exchange of information, including at the level of the parliamentary factions, is likely to lead to PCFR MPs objectively approaching within the State Duma the problems emerging in the bilateral relations, as well as to initiating hearings at the level of Russian State Duma factions and committees. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan lawmakers also met the State Duma deputy speaker Valentin Kuptsov. During the debates, the sides emphasized the need to cooperate and mutually support within the interparliamentary organisations. The interlocutors stressed the necessity to identify the mechanisms and prospects for the participation in diverse economic arragements in the CIS area, on the European and the international plane. <\/p>\n

In the context of the Transnistrian problem settlement, the sides spoke for implementing the plan proposed by Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and accepted by Vladimir Putin. According to the collocutors, the plan would lead to the equitable settlement and in a predictable term of the Transnistrian conflict within a united Moldova. The sides also tackled the issue on resuming as soon a possible the meetings of the intergovernmental commission on cooperation, which would favour the boosting of the bilateral economic relations, and would eliminate the problems which appear within these relations. <\/p>\n

During a discussion with the head of the State Duma committee for culture, Yosif Kobzon, the sides tackled "aspects of diversifying and deepening the cultural relations between Moldova and Russia, as well as the prospects for developing the traditional interstate cultural relations." <\/p>\n
