\nMarch 28, 2006 (moldova.org) — According to recent poll organized by OMNIMAS research service, the Moldovan Party of Communists enjoys the greatest support among Moldova’s political parties. 64.2 percent of respondents are ready to vote for communists if the elections were organized ‘today’, followed by the Our Moldova Alliance (10.4 percent) and the Christian Democratic Popular Party (8.4 percent). In March 2005 parliamentary elections, communists won 56 seats out of 101 seats in parliament, Democratic Moldova Bloc (composed mainly by Our Moldova members) – 34 seats, and Christian Democrats – 11 seats. Thus, communists’ support is on the rise in the last year. <\/p>\n

Also in this poll, the Communist Party’s chairman and the Moldovan president Vladimir Voronin has been considered as the public person who enjoys the greatest trust of the poll participants, followed by other two public figures—prime minister Vasile Tarlev and speaker of the parliament Marian Lupu, both running on the communist party’s list during the 2005 elections. <\/p>\n

Asked about holding a possible referendum on Moldova joining the European Union, most respondents (62 percent) are in favor of accession. <\/p>\n

The opinion poll was conducted on 1-19 February 2006 on a sample of 1,027 people, with a 3.1-per cent error margin.
