The apparent crisis in the Transnistrian region is a consequence of a false policy of the Smirnov regime, Romanian Foreign Minister Mihai Razvan Ungureanu said Wednesday at the end of a meeting with the head of the European Union’s Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine, Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged, according to Mediafax. <\/p>\n

"All is framed up in Transnistria now, the appearance of a crisis, (…) is mostly a false policy that the Smirnov regime is trying to stage," Ungureanu said. <\/p>\n

He noted that the agreement between Ukraine and Moldova regarding the control on transit of commodities in the Transnistrian border section brings light to a very difficult issue. <\/p>\n

Also, he repeated that Romania is unsatisfied with the pace of the five-plus-two negotiations and noted that the E.U. shares this dissatisfaction. "The E.U. proposals have remained at the level of theory so far," he added. <\/p>\n

In turn, Jacobovits de Szeged was "very surprised" with the way a Transnistrian leader, Igor Smirnov, can prohibit the industry from the region to export, challenging thus big losses. <\/p>\n

As regards a new round of talks, he said that invitations for the April 5-6 negotiations were sent on Wednesday and hoped that the sides will give green light to them. <\/p>\n

Asked about attitude of Russia towards agreement on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, Jacobovits de Szeged said that Russia is located at 1,500 kilometres from that border and the problem can be resolved between the two sovereign states, admitting however the importance of Russia’s participation in the negotiations for settlement of the Transnistrian crisis. <\/p>\n
