Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks, who is in Chisinau on an official visit, voiced hope that the new mechanism will allow to monitor and control the Transdniestrian segment of border. Pabriks said the Transdniestrian authorities should understand that the only solution for the Transdniestrian conflict is Moldova’s reintegration. He added that the respective measure was to be introduced sooner or later given that Moldova would become neighbor of the European Union. <\/p>\n

Moldova’s Foreign Minister Andrei Stratan said in turn that Russian officials’ declarations regarding a ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ in the Transdniestrian region are illegal methods of conflict solving used by Transdniestrian authorities. <\/p>\n

As of March 3, Ukraine started applying the provisions of the joint declaration of Moldovan and Ukrainian Prime Ministers of 30 December 2005.
