Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin stated on the national television last Saturday that his working visit to Moscow is being prepared presently. During it, the sides will discuss a wide spectrum of problems pertaining to bilateral relations, including certainly the Transnistrian settlement question. Voronin did not say when he will go to Moscow, and only remarked that a meeting with President Vladimir Putin has been projected. <\/p>\n

"I am preparing to Moscow not as the First Secretary of the Soviet Moldovan Communist Party to the General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party. I deeply respect President Vladimir Putin. He is a man of a wonderful analytical intellect who goes deep into every problem, and who understands us", said Vladimir Voronin. <\/p>\n

He said that presently the official Chisinau is preparing information for President Putin "to bring to his knowledge the entire truth and to put an end to all those speculations that the [ethnic] Russians are allegedly being oppressed because of the Transnistria problem. In Chisinau city alone, there are more Russians than in the whole Transnistria. Moldova has been practicing the institution of dual citizenship for 3 years by now. We have 6,600 Russian-language schools. Moldova has been officially recognized as a multi-ethnic state. So, what oppressions can one speak about? Rather, we come across an information blockade imposed by certain interested forces in the Russian State Duma. These forces have unleashed the hysteria against Moldova these days to protect their clan interests in Transnistria". <\/p>\n

"I have many a time stated and can reiterate today: Russia has always been and remains our chief ally and strategic partner. Moldova and Russia have one mutual problem – Transnistria.
