William Hill, head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, today told a press conference that both the mediators and observers expressed their regret that the recent round of negotiations did not end with the signature of the protocol. The mediators and observers said they are ready to continue the consultations over the resumption of the talks in the 5+2 format. <\/p>\n

“We will continue working today. This afternoon the mediators will meet Reintegration Minister Vasile Sova. We plan to have consultations with the Transdniestrian side today or tomorrow,” Hill said. <\/p>\n

According to Hill, the main reasons for which the Moldovan delegation left the negotiations was the problem of the Dorotkaia village located in the Security Zone and the issue of the free movement of the people and goods in the Transdniestrian region. The head of the OSCE Mission stressed that a solution for the Transdniestrian villages that are under Chisinau’s administration must be found before the seeding season. “Yesterday’s discussions showed that there are possibilities of solving these problems, but the debates have not finished yet. We hope to achieve a result by the end of the current or next week,” Hill said. <\/p>\n

This is the first time a round of negotiations on the Transdniestrian issue was interrupted at the request of a side.
