The Moldovan-American task force for political and military issues today conducted its first meeting to identify possibilities for the USA to offer assistance to Moldova in the process of preparing the Individual Action Plan Moldova-NATO. <\/p>\n

The North-Atlantic Alliance’s (NATO) Council decided last August to sign a joint partnership action plan with Moldova in the first quarter of 2006. <\/p>\n

Moldovan Defence Minister Valeriu Plesca said within the event that the issues due to be considered by the Moldovan-American bilateral group do not necessarily deal with the military sector, but include all the aspects of the Moldova-NATO partnership. Plesca said that the IPAP’s implementation will help adjust the national security and defence system to the standards of the states from the Euro-Atlantic security system, increase cooperation and strengthen Moldova’s domestic and foreign stability. <\/p>\n

Participating in the task force’s meeting, US Ambassador to Moldova Heather M. Hodges said the American side is interested to find out what actions Moldova has been taken in the context of the IPAP’s future implementation, and determine how the USA could help Moldova in the process. <\/p>\n

Hodges said that the US representatives will unveil the assistance strategy for Moldova in order to exchange opinions. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan-American task force for political and military issues includes representatives of more Moldovan governmental institutions and of the US embassy in Chisinau.
