The Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) describes the Resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) as inopportune and considers that it has elements unacceptable for PCRM. <\/p>\n

The plenary meeting of the PCRM Central Committee that took place at the end of last week adopted a statement on the resolution passed by PACE. <\/p>\n

The statement reads that the Moldovan Communists consider it necessary to organize a national and international campaign for informing the society about the unified position of the left-wing political forces from the whole Europe that oppose the attempt to denigrate and discredit “the political and humanitarian inheritance of the Communists”. <\/p>\n

The participants in the meeting expressed hope that the PACE resolution will not generate the development of right-wing extremist ideas. “We do not intend to condemn the tradition of the political thinking and the fight against fascism to which we, the Communists, offered many sacrifices. We do not want to condemn the communist ideas only because their implementation was tragic and pathologically approached,” the statement runs. <\/p>\n

The same statement says that the initial resolution adopted by PACE aroused negative reactions and afterwards it was amended and certain recommendations were excluded. Yet, the final version kept elements that are unacceptable for PCRM, as for instance the condemnation of the fact that the Communist parties continue to exist legally. “The very idea of launching such a document is absurd and does not correspond to the real threats of the century,” the Moldovan Communists say. <\/p>\n

It should be mentioned that on 25 January PACE did not succeed in adopting a recommendation that asked the CE member states to condemn the crimes of the totalitarian communist regimes and invited the former communist countries, all of them members of the Pan-European organization, except Belarus, to revise their textbooks and erect monuments in the victims’ memory. The document was rejected through lack of necessary number of votes. Thus, PACE succeeded in adopting a resolution entitled "The need to condemn the crimes of all the totalitarian communist regimes" which “invites" the communist or post-communist parties from the CE member states "to reexamine the history of the communism and their own past (…) and to condemn them avoiding the ambiguity."
