Moldovan Deputy Speaker Iurie Rosca today met Lithuanian Resident Representative to NATO, Ambassador Linas Linkevicius, who is on an official visit to Moldova, according to the parliamentary press and image service. <\/p>\n

Rosca informed the Lithuanian ambassador about the parliament’s actions to adjust the national military, defence and security legislation to the European acquis. He emphasized that the legislature has already operated a string of important amendments to the legislation on Security Service, and, he added, during the spring session, the MPs will start amending the legislation on Prosecutor General’s Office, etc. In the context, Rosca expressed the parliament’s interest to take over Lithuania’s and the Baltic States’ experience in military structures’ reform. <\/p>\n

Rosca also spoke for a permanent dialogue with the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), and voiced hope that the parliamentary factions will reach a consensus as regards the need to strengthen bilateral relations with NATO and give an impetus to the political dialogue with this institution. <\/p>\n

Rosca called for political support in the withdrawal of Russian troops and armament from the country’s eastern districts, and specified that Moldova mainly counts on the support of those states that confronted with the issue over Russia’s military presence on their territory. <\/p>\n

Linkevicius welcomed Moldova working out the Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO (IPAP) and stressed the need to elaborate a National Plan for IPAP’s implementation. <\/p>\n

The Lithuanian diplomat said that IPAP offers to Moldova many possibilities to participate in NATO programmes related not only to military collaboration, but which also include a large spectrum of activities, including economic cooperation. Linkevicius considers that Moldova could cooperate within IPAP both in the 26+1 format, and at the bilateral level with the NATO member states. <\/p>\n

Linkevicius expressed Lithuania’s willingness to share its experience of dialogue with NATO, and adjustment of the national legislation and institutions to the community norms.
