Negotiations with the Moldavskaya Power Plant and its owner – RAO EES [United Electricity Networks of Russia] – must be continued and accelerated in order to ensure the republic with reliable electricity supply, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin stated at the Thursday’s working meeting with relevant officials he convened to discuss further cooperation with the Russian owner of the Moldavskaya (near Tiraspol, the Republic of Moldova’s biggest energy object). <\/p>\n

The assembly discussed a scheme of interaction with the Russian partner. The head of state requested Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Vladimir Antosii to speed up negotiations with RAO EES for a soonest-possible resumption of power supply from the Plant. <\/p>\n

For years, Moldavskaya has provided the right Dniester bank with more than a half of its electricity needs. In 2005, the huge object came to have a new owner – the above-mentioned mighty Russian electricity monopoly. The new owner warned Chisinau shortly after that due to growing fuel rates, the gas-fed Plant was going to set a new electricity tariff from November 1 – 4.08 US cents per a kilowatt\/hour (before, the price was 3.05 cents). Chisinau stated no. Moldavskaya said as you wish, and cut the supply on November 9.
