Tiraspol claims that the Transnistrian goods cross the border with Ukraine without any problems, while representatives of Chisinau say that they did not receive any information to confirm that Kiev has suspended the agreement on exportation of products from the Transnistrian region only on basis of the Moldovan customs stamp. <\/p>\n

Iurii Ganin, deputy industry minister of Transnistria, was quoted by Tiraspol’s mouthpiece Olvia-Press as saying on Thursday that Ukraine has withdrawn from the intergovernmental agreement on control of goods. He noted that "Ukraine has understood that it will lose after introduction of the new trade regime." <\/p>\n

"The imports from Ukraine to Transnistria turn over 270 million dollars. The new regime stipulates that the goods will enter Moldova first and will fall under VAT, excises and other taxes, while this means that the Ukrainian goods will become more uncompetitive in Transnistria," Ganin added. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, Igor Dodon, deputy minister of economy and trade, told a news conference on Thursday that Moldova did not receive any official confirmation from Ukraine in this regard. "Ukrainian Premier Yury Yekanurov has confirmed the agreement with his Moldovan counterpart at a meeting with businessmen from Odessa and assured that it would be respected," Dodon added. <\/p>\n

However, a presidential communication said among others that the assistant of deputy U.S. secretary of state, David Kramer, who represents the United States at the negotiation process, "expressed puzzle in connection with suspension of implementation of the December 30, 2005 joint declaration of Moldovan and Ukrainian prime ministers regarding the transit of goods through the Moldovan-Ukrainian border." The official delivered this statement at a meeting with the chief of state on Thursday. <\/p>\n

Chisinau and Kiev agreed in 2004 to allow the exportation of goods from the Transnistrian region only on basis of the Moldovan specimens, but Ukraine withdrew from this agreement meanwhile.
