\"\"Ukraine decided not to introduce the new regime of transiting goods manufactured in Transdniestria through the Moldovan-Ukrainian border as of 25 January, Transdniestrian separatist leader Igor Smirnov said. The decision was taken at the meeting ofthe so-called head of the Foreign Department of Transdniestria Valeri Litkai and Ukraine’s Representative at Transdniestrian settlement negotiations Dmitri Tkaci. <\/p>\n

If the new rules had been accepted this would have meant “a new economic blockade on the part of Chisinau”, Smirnov said. In his opinion this would have led to “a social explosion”. The commission of experts within the 5+2 format will solve the issue, he said. <\/p>\n

The official Chisinau has previously stated that new import and export rules will be introduced at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border starting 25 January 2006 in line with the agreements made with Ukraine. Under the new rules, the goods manufactured in Transdniestria can be exported only having Moldovan customs stamps on them. <\/p>\n

The issue needs a thorough analysis, Kiev said, adding that a special commission will be created in this respect. <\/p>\n

At a meeting in Odessa, Ukrainian Premier Yury Ehanurov said both Chisinau and Tiraspol must state their points of view, the paper “Kommersant” reported. Ehanurov promised to order the creation of a working group that would work on this issue in common with Chisinau and Tiraspol representatives. <\/p>\n

On 24 January Moldovan, Transdniestrian and Ukrainian authorities and businessmen met in Odessa to discuss the introduction of the new regime of goods transit through the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. During the meeting, Moldovan Economy and Trade Minister Valeriu Lazar said the registration of Transdniestrian companies in Moldova will not negative consequences for these. <\/p>\n

On Thursday Moldovan President met Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of State David Kramer who wondered why the implementation of the stipulations of the Moldovan-Ukrainian Statement on the transit of goods through the Moldovan-Ukrainian border dated 30 December 2005 was stopped. <\/p>\n

The offical Chisinau did not comment yet on Ukraine’s decision to postpone the introduction of the new regime. Asked by REPORTER.MD to comment on Ukraine’s decision analyst Igor Munteanu, executive director of IDIS “Viitorul”, said that besides economic interests there is an obvious lack of consensus within the Ukrainian leadership.
