Finding your roots in Bessarabia

Interested in finding your family roots in Bessarabia/Moldova & Romania?

Do you miss information on family records for creating your family tree?

Most people have some degree of curiosity about their family heritage -- your family’s country of origin, where your family lived in the U.S., and what their lives might have been like.

Over the last decade, genealogy has become one of the fastest-growing hobbies in the U.S. A recent study reports that 49% of families have started a family tree, and 37% have written up a family history or have visited an ancestral town or country.

Why should we search the past? Why should we try to find out about people that are long dead? We are each a product of our past – our experiences, relationships, environment and hereditary. Understanding our ancestors – where they lived, what they did, and how they fit into their community – helps us understand ourselves. And, this knowledge can provide a sense of kinship to the past and, perhaps, even closure and peace. It can connect us to a new and larger family. It also can be fascinating and full of surprises! Our desire to learn where we come from is one of our most basic human curiosities, and something to share with our children.

Think of your heritage as you would a colorful jigsaw puzzle. As the pieces are put together, the image gets clearer. With genealogy, assembling the pieces of this very intriguing puzzle can be quite a challenge. Like any puzzle, each genealogical piece will be unique in size, shape, form, color and character. But, unlike a jigsaw puzzle, with genealogy you first have to find the pieces, and then identify them as being pieces that complete this puzzle, not one from another box on the shelf. Assembling the pieces of your family puzzle can be a formidable undertaking, because some of the pieces may be difficult to find, may not exist, or may have been lost or missing, despite best attempts to find them. The search requires time and also specialized research and analytical skills. But, finding distant family and a knowledge of your heritage can provide some of life’s greatest rewards!
