This monastery was found in 1932 by …Metropolitan Bishop of Basarabia, Gurie Grosu (1926-1936). He found it on an estate of 50 hectares, donated to the Metropolitan Church by a Christian named Vasile Pistol from Sadaclia village. The records mention about it as the Monastery of Metropolitan Bishop Gurie. This was a small settlement for monks, having a church and several cells. In 1932 the monastery’s community numbered 20 monks guided by Abbot Iachint Ciobanu, 36, the Bishop’s student.
In 1937, when Gurie Grosu lost the title of Metropolitan Bishop, the monastery’s life changed significantly. Until 1941, the monastery was led by another abbot, whose name remains unknown.
In 1942, because of the war, the nuns returned to Varzaresti and the monastery was turned into a jail for military prisoners, but after the war ended, it was for political prisoners as well. After 1950, a hospital was functioning within the monastery, which was transferred in time to another place, so that the monastery could be used by the agricultural management from the locality. Because of the degradation, the monastery was completely destroyed, the construction material being used for building farms.
In the spring of 1997 due to the Christians’ request from Sadaclia village, the former monastery of Metropolitan Bishop Gurie was re-established as a monastery of nuns under the name Chistoleni.
The construction of the monastery was started in the same year under the supervision of Deacon Alexei Stoian. One year was enough to erect all the buildings necessary for the monastery and to finish the foundation of the new church.
The servants and also the founders of this saint monastery were two brothers, priests by unction: loan Jelihovschi and rector Valerian Jelihovschi, who was also Sadaclia’s priest-rector. These two devout fathers were professors at the Theological Seminar from Noul Neanit.
