The rural guesthouses have improved their accommodation, renewed and decorated guest rooms to meet the standards of foreign tourists, expanding the ability to accommodate guests and diversify their services.

The reconstruction works lasted over 16 months, worth over $120,000, of which the USAID-financed Swedish Project of Competitiveness, and the Government of Sweden, allocated about $60,000, and the own contributions of the pensions amounted to $60,000.

  • “The house from the meadow” now has a heating system and a new glazed terrace, where meetings, conferences and various events can be organized. Bicycles and boat rides are available to guests on the River Raut, and there are hammocks in the garden.

Ala Benzin, manager of the rural pension “The house from the meadow”:

“The house from the meadow” is the first rural pension in Moldova and is open to tourists for 15 years. During this time we had many tourists from the very first day after opening, from different corners of the world. For each group of tourists I prepare traditional dishes according to traditional recipes, as they prepare in the village of Trebujeni.”

  • “The house under the cliff” comes with a new interior where tourists would gather in front of the fireplace. The bedrooms of the accommodation unit got renovated, which now have modern toilets both indoors and outdoors. The tourists’ service has doubled thanks to the new terrace, adapted for traditional meals and MICE events (meetings, incentives, conferences and events)

Galina Buzilă, manager of the guest house “The house under the cliff”:

“We opened the pension in 2006, and since then we are going towards rural tourism, a very interesting field. After serving our traditional dishes, we have some sort of soul satisfaction, and the tourists are satisfied. Although we don’t understand the language they speak, their emotions speak everything. This year we managed to renovate the guesthouse and bring it to the standards demanded by foreign and local tourists. We have a 45-seat terrace and a smaller one for 15 people and 13 accommodations and we have a beautiful home that I’ve built with my family when I was younger.”

  • “The green house” has benefited from the full renovation of the interior and the changing of the house’s windows. The modernization process was the terrace, but also the toilets inside and outside, and the pension has a new heating system.

Ludmila Buzila, owner of “The green house” pension:

“Since the opening of the guesthouse we had guests from all over the world, even from the farthest corners, and our guests leave their recommendations in the Suggestion Book. The tourists coming here come back every time because they say they find authentic, spiritual things here. In the hostel, we have nine accommodation places, two terraces: one summer and one winter table and a traditional dishes menu.”

Currently, only about 10 out of 26 rural hostels registered in the Republic of Moldova offer tourists accommodation in accordance with Western standards.

The annual events are organized by the village church priest, with the support of the local authorities. In an interview with the local press, the priest recently said that through these events he is trying to promote a healthy way of living among the congregants.

At the edge of the village, people have improvised several slopes that everyone would ride with the sled until late at night. In order to withstand the frost, households and local housewives came to the slope with warm “Plăcinte” (traditional pies) and hot wine. Juice and potatoes were also prepared.

Today, Old Orthodox Christians celebrate Saint John the Baptist day

Published

Today, the Old Orthodox Christians celebrate Saint John the Baptist, one of the most holy saints. The parishioners begin their day at the church, praying for the health of their loved ones, but also for family welfare.

The Christian tradition says that St. John the Baptist was the one who preached the coming of the Savior and who baptized Jesus Christ in the Jordan River. John the Baptist was the last of the Old Testament prophets and a New Testament publisher.

The story in which people in Moldova still believe in, is that St. John the Baptist is considered to be the greatest and most important of all who have ever been. This is for his hard life in the wilderness of the Jordan, the calling of the people to the confession of sins and to repentance, the worthiness to baptize the Lord Jesus Christ, the confession of truth and the thirst for justice, and the punishment of his head.

St. John the Baptist had a death of a martyr – his head was cut off from King Herod Antipa’s order.

The holy relics became known through the multitude of wonders that were done.

The great music composer of the Republic of Moldova, Eugen Doga, will participate in the National Culture Day at the symposium entitled “Romanian Culture at Anniversary Clock – Centenary of the Great Union”, which will take place on Monday at the Romanian Academy.

“It’s a great honor for me. There will be the sonnet, the first work in which I was inspired by Eminescu’s creation. I wrote a musical piece without words, then I switched to poetry. He was also a musician. His poetry is music, so I repeat: I do not compose the lyrics of Eminescu, I decipher the music from Eminescu’s lyrics,” said Doga, who is also a member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

The Symposium “Romanian Culture at Anniversary Clock – Centenary of the Great Union” will be opened by the President of the Romanian Academy, and will be moderated by Acad. Alexandru Surdu, Vice-President of the Romanian Academy.

The event will be attended by the Minister of Culture and National Identity, Lucian Romaşcanu, and the presidential adviser Sergiu Nistor.

The birthday of the national poet Mihai Eminescu, January 15, was declared the National Culture Day at the initiative of the Romanian Academy.
