Ilan Shor: My lawyers filed a lawsuit for KROLL at the Supreme Court in London

Yesterday, the so-called Mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor announced that his lawyers filed a lawsuit against KROLL at the Supreme Court in London. The announcement was made after the National Bank published a synthesis of the Kroll II bank fraud investigation, which mentions Shor’s name.

Mayor of Orhei was convinced that he would succeed in breaking down KROLL’s true business and gaining justice in this official court.

In a press statement, Shor noted that “the results” presented by KROLL in its new “creation” do not communicate anything new, since all KROLL’s information has already been brought to the attention of the investigator.

“The report” does not identify real beneficiaries or money traces,” said Ilan Shor.

“Their main task is to find a “scapegoat” and, at the same time, to take revenge for the revealed truth. It is enough to recall that the KROLL employer was the government controlled by Filat. In fact, Kroll continues to execute the order of the main beneficiaries of the funds stolen, and does so on public money. In my opinion, law enforcement agencies should have drawn attention to this fact long ago,” he added.

Dodon could appoint a judge to the Constitutional Court

The Constitutional Court could be composed of 7 judges, compared to 6 – as it is today. The Legal Commission, Appointments and Immunities has examined and supported today’s meeting of the draft amendment to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and will propose for debate to the Legislative Plenum.

According to the project, two judges are appointed by the Parliament, two by the Government, two by the Superior Council of Magistracy, and a judge will be appointed by the President of the Republic of Moldova. At the moment, the head of state does not have this right.

The draft also stipulates that the mandate of judges of the Constitutional Court who are in office at the date of entry into force of this law is extended by 3 years.

The project is to be debated and voted by the Parliament.

Supreme Court of Justice rejects appeal of Moldova ex-PM Vlad Filat, 9 years sentence stays valid

On 12 December, the Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova rejected as inadmissible the appeal of the former Prime-Minister Vlad Filat.

The Court motivated that the appeals of cancellation regarding Filat’s case are “clearly unfounded”.

According to Ziarul de Gardă, the decision means that Filat used all the national appeal tools and that he can apply for appeal only at the European Court for Human Rights (ECtHR). Igor Popa, the lawyer of the former Liberal-Democrat, previously declared that the European Court is the last hope for “justice”.

Former Liberal-Democrat Prime-Minister, Vlad Filat, was arrested on October 15th, 2015 for allegations of passive corruption and traffic influence towards the then businessman and now mayor of Orhei, Ilan Shor. On June 27th, 2016, he was condemned to nine years of closed imprisonment by the Court Buiucani of Chişinău, a decision reinforced by the Appeal Court of Chişinău on November 11th, 2016. Moldova’s Supreme Court rejected Filat’s lawyers’ requests to reexamine the case.

Maia Sandu challenges in court the refusal of prosecutors to investigate Vlad Plahotniuc for usurpation of power

The leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Maia Sandu, challenged in court the order of a prosecutor to refuse the investigation of Vlad Plahotniuc for usurpation of power.

According to Sandu, quoted by a PAS press-release, the complaint to the court states that the prosecutor was biased in examining the penal inquiry against Plahotniuc. The given prosecutor reportedly asked only close persons and party affiliates of the Democrat oligarch and nobody who could make statements against him. Moreover, the fact that Plahotniuc himself wasn’t requested to come for a hearing raises problems of credibility towards the way the penal inquiry was examined.

The PAS leader believes that prosecution and justice institutions are subordinated to Vladimir Plahotniuc.

Despite the fact he holds no governmental position, Vlad Plahotniuc is known for his control over the Government, judiciary branch, prosecution system and the anti-corruption bodies through his proxy Democratic Party, vassal-parties and particular persons in the top of management of Moldovan state institutions. Vlad Plahotniuc is often called the one and only oligarch left in Moldova, the grey eminence or the puppeteer of Moldovan politics. He was officially elected as the leader of the Democratic Party at the 8th Congress in December 2016. He might be under penal investigation in Romania for allegations of organized crime, blackmailing, money laundering and fraud.
